Match Preview: Bundesliga, Fixture 9, Bayer Leverkusen vs Mainz 05

Sunday, 24.08.2010, 17:30 (GMT+2)

No press conference was held for this game, so this will be a brief preview.

Line-up

With Hyypiä out, Reinartz and M.Friedrich will repeat as centre-backs.  Schwaab should rotate back into the team for Vida.  Given the high amount of injuries and a strong opponent, Heynckes is likely to give Helmes a rest and play with one striker (Derdiyok).  Whether our captain Rolfes will play from the beginning is a tricky question, he could sit on the bench and come in later or start and be substituted after 60-70 minutes.  Bender and Vidal should make it into the line-up so or so, Balitsch only if Rolfes does not begin.

On the wings we should see full power from Barnetta and Sam.  They have had a good break and will hopefully decide this match together with Derdiyok.

Because that’s the whole point of rotations!

Line-up Mainz 05 (from Kicker):
Wetklo -Zabavnik,Svensson,Noveski,Fuchs – Karhan,Polanski,Soto – Holtby,Schürrle – Szalai

Who do we have to look out for?

Schürrle (4 goals and 1 assist; future Bayer 04 player)
Szalai (3 goals and 1 assist; comes from Real Madrid youth)
Holtby (2 goals and 7 assists)

If our midfield destroys as against Aris I have no worry even if our defense chief Hyypiä is not on the pitch.  The BayArena is also sold out and will support the team at it’s best!!

Feel free to join us in the chat tomorrow!  By then I will have also posted in the forum an interesting news article from the german press with captain Rolfes thoughts on Heynckes.  Come in and find out 🙂
